Young people are increasingly misusing alcohol and illegal drugs. Consequences range from non-attendance and poor attainment at school, poor health, committing crime to support ‘habits’ and also increased risk of being a victim of violent crime and sexual exploitation.

At Sunrise Transitional Services we support young people to understand the risks their drug or alcohol use poses to their health and wellbeing, and support them to reduce or stop their use safely. Once stability or abstinence has been achieved, we provide a recovery plan to help prevent the possibility of a relapse in order to achieve Positive Outcomes.

We work with young people who are misusing substance, and give advise and information to any young person who is experimenting with or just curious about drugs and alcohol.

We have a team of professional staff members who have the relevant substance misuse knowledge and experience and are dedication to supporting young people. We also have excellent links with agencies in the borough to ensure that we are able to provide a non judgmental, holistic service to young people along side their placement plan.

What we offer young people advice, information and support in relation to drugs and alcohol issues, including weekly one-to-one counselling, group work and drugs education.

We;
  • listen  and don’t make  judgments
  • give correct and up to date information about drugs and alcohol i.e. effects, the law and minimising harm.
  • provide support that is appropriate for the individual. This could be telephone support (anonymous if you like), or face to face with a worker
  • offer support to friends or family members of young people who are using drugs and/or alcohol
  • support young people to find other activities that you can do rather than using drugs and/or alcohol
  • help young people to think about what to do and where to go next
  • to seek counselling or medical Interventions if assessed as suitable.
Our aim;
  • is to inspire young people to work towards abstinence as a goal, and
  • to help them appreciate the value that abstinence can bring to their health and wellbeing.
