Homes for young Asylum seekers and refugees:

We are aware that young asylum seekers and refugees are one of the most vulnerable groups of children and young people in care. This is due to their experience of war and conflict. Some have been victims of trafficking, suffered, loss and trauma as well as coming to a new environment, usually unable to speak English. This type of service is vital to support these young people to integrate fully into the UK and provide them with Positive Outcomes.

For those who are without their family members and are particularly vulnerable, we want to make sure they have extra support, feel safe, cared for and are listened to.

We do this by:
  • Having unique opportunity for Local Authorities to utilise our homes which offers a team of experienced workers who have proven skills in asylum legislation including home office and age assessments.
  • Providing safe homes for young people seeking asylum with other young people in similar situations. This means that they do not feel so isolated.
  • Encouraging the young people to engage with local college courses and access to out of school activities to help develop English skills and allow them to gain confidence in themselves so that we can offer the opportunity to move them into more mixed homes and therefore expand their peer group experiences.

Sunrise Transitional Services provides support for unaccompanied asylum seekers and work closely with accredited immigration solicitors or legal advisors, where necessary. We also provide support and assistance for unaccompanied asylum seekers to seek out lost relatives and family who may be in or out of the country. This is done through the British Red Cross and Amnesty International.

We provide a written Monthly up-date report on the young person’s progress, identifying any issues or concerns that may have arisen throughout the previous month. The unit manager is available to attend meeting to further plan/discuss the young person case.

We will work in partnership with the young person’s placing social worker and any other relevant person in the young person life in preparing them to move into more long term accommodation.

We are fully committed to the pursuit of excellence in our work with young people in our care and we invite you to contact us to discuss your needs and gain a fuller insight into the services we provide.
